Stephen McClure, a gifted musician, dedicated dentist, and lifelong student of the arts, passed away on April 3, 2026. Born on July 1, 1951, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Robert E. McClure and Dorothy Love, Steve grew up in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, building a life defined by intellectual curiosity, professional excellence, and a profound love for his family. Steve’s life was forever changed by his deep and enduring bond with his beloved wife, Debbie Gift. Though they first met in their twenties, life took them on separate paths for a time. It was not until their forties that they rekindled their friendship—a reconnection that quickly blossomed into a beautiful, lifelong partnership. Together, Steve and Debbie shared decades of music, travel, and a shared devotion to their family. Their marriage was a testament to the power of second chances and a love that only grew deeper with time. Professionally, Steve was a mainstay of the Irwin, Pennsylvania, community for over forty years. After earning his DMD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, he established a private practice where he was known as much for his gentle chairside manner as his technical skill. In his later years, he returned to his alma mater as a faculty member, finding great fulfillment in teaching the next generation of dentists at the University of Pittsburgh. Beyond the clinic, music was the secondary pulse of Steve’s life. A gifted guitar player and a true music buff, he lived for live performances, from the quiet precision of the Pittsburgh Symphony to the energy of local venues. His appreciation for storytelling extended to his encyclopedic knowledge of cinema and a legendary love for stand-up comedy. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace hiking the Pennsylvania woods, and he cherished his later-life journeys to Scotland, where he felt a deep, ancestral connection to the McClure heritage. Throughout his life, Steve was a quiet force for good. A dedicated philanthropist, he gave generously to causes like the Salvation Army and the ASPCA, preferring to make an impact behind the scenes to leave the world better than he found it. Stephen was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Gift; his brothers, Jeff and Rob McClure; and his parents. He is survived by his sons, Brian McClure and Eric McClure; his stepson, Jon Williams; and his stepdaughter, Sarah Williams. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Emily, Eva, Connor, and Madelyn, all of whom will remember him for his quiet wisdom, his music, and his enduring kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, beautiful music, and a family that loved him dearly.
