Laura "Jean" (Schade) Grosz

Laura “Jean” Grosz, 82 of Irwin, PA, passed away peacefully at home on April 24th, 2023. Jean was born December 18th, 1940 at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, to the late Philip and Betty (Lang) Schade and graduated from Irwin High School in 1958. Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband and dance partner of over 60 years, Henry “Floyd” Grosz. The light and soul of every social gathering, Jean shared her infectious love for life, community, and togetherness serving as an active member of the Norwin Elks, Irwin Moose, and VFW. A true social butterfly active until the day she passed, Jean enjoyed golfing, cheering for her Steelers, bowling at North Irwin VFD, playing bingo at the Elks, and leading her book club. An exceptional homemaker and matriarch to her family, Jean was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals and parties for her family and friends, especially over the holidays. She was the loving mother of four sons, Scott Grosz (Heidi Betler) of Wyoming, Mark Grosz (Lisa Kardos) of Greensburg, PA, Todd Grosz (Terri Wend) of Sacramento, CA, and Jeff Grosz of Irwin, PA. She is also survived by eight precious grandchildren: Jocelyn, Michael, Ellyn, Brandon, Drew, T.J., Kayse, and Brianna, along with many great-grandchildren. Jean leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great nephew. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Judy McIntyre, and her brother, John Schade. She is survived by her dear sister, Janice Best, of North Irwin, and gregarious brother, Harry Schade (Sandy Genoff), of Arroyo Grande, California. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Audrey Farah, of Cabot, Pa, and Roberta Schade of Florida. Friends will be received from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Friday, April 28 at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main Street, Irwin. Everyone is invited to a wake on Saturday, April 29th from 2-5 PM at the Irwin Moose.
