Minotto "Uncle Mo" J. Cortese Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Minotto "Uncle Mo" J. Cortese, age 84, of Export, PA, died on January 21, 2022. Born in 1937 to Italian immigrants and raised in Braddock, Mo proudly served in the US Army, from which he was honorably discharged in 1958. He spent his career as a molder at Mesta Machinery in West Homestead, from which he retired in 1983. Mo devoted much of his time to hunting, fishing, and all things rustic and outdoors. He traveled far and wide for his sport, including trips to Wyoming, Montana, and British Columbia. He lived for decades on his own private mountain, aptly named Mo’s Mountain, in Schellsburg in Bedford County. There he attended to his mountain and his sport, but, ultimately moved to his Export home to be closer to his family. Mo was everyone’s favorite uncle and storyteller, and he used that position to mentor generously. Mo was loved and held dear by many: his late parents Joseph and Clara (Molinaro) Cortese; his late sister R. Shirley (Cortese) Masi and her late husband Thomas; his late brother Peter Cortese and his wife Donna; and his last surviving aunt, Ida Haupt. Most noteworthy are all who called him Uncle: the late Karen (Masi) Roebuck Schlanger and her children Nicholas, Alexander, and Zachary Roebuck; James Masi; the late Dino Cortese; Gina (Cortese) Schafer and her children Bryan and Paul Yurinko and Raymond and Danielle Schafer; the late Lisa Cortese; Mario Cortese and his children Caleb and Kyle Cortese; plus many great-great nieces and nephews. Even people outside his family called him Uncle, most notably Charlie, Bob, and Jeff Scripp. Mo also leaves treasured cousins, friends, gym buddies, coffee shop companions, and neighbors. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 29th from 11 a.m. till time of blessing service at noon at the William Snyder Funeral Home: 521 Main St, Irwin, 724-863-1200.
