Denise R. “De” Matthews, 73, of North Huntingdon, died Friday May 6, 2022. She was born January 12, 1949 in Wilkinsburg, a daughter of the late Joseph Guy and Vanita (Whiting) Thompson. Her mother was a WWII British war bride who died in childbirth. De was raised by Minnie and Jim Thompson. She was a former hairdresser and also worked as a private duty nurses aid. She was a member of Norwin Alliance Church, North Huntingdon, where she was active with the bible study. She was a former Girl Scout leader from Daisies on up and had a passion for collecting cows. De loved the history of Abraham Lincoln and Gettysburg and was a huge Civil War buff. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dale R. Matthews. She is survived by her children Dayna Matthews Ceresa of Pitcairn, Dianna Matthews of North Huntingdon, and Susan Ashley Baden of Colorado; grandchildren Sara Jane Matz and Jazmine Woods; a brother Dennis Thompson of Trafford; also uncles, many cousins, close friends, and her pet dogs Wallie and Henry. She loved “da cuzins” Teri A. (Greg) Binduga, Brian (Kim) Spudy, Nancy Spudy Clark, and Jimmy Thompson, also dearest friends Mel Baden, Jan (Dan) Newman, Luann (Butch) Ickes, Pat (Joe) Beyers, and Jackie Hopkins. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 4, 2022, at Murrysville Alliance Church, 4130 Old William Penn Hwy, Murrysville, PA 15668, with Rev. Robert Daniels, officiating. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to the youth ministry of Murrysville Alliance Church. The William Snyder Funeral Home, Irwin, is in charge of arrangements.
