Rosemary Halchak Soltesz

On the 3rd day of May, 2024, Rosemary Halchak Soltesz, age 74, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully due to natural causes at Canterbury Place, Pittsburgh. Rosemary was born October 15, 1949 in Pittsburgh, where she was raised by her late parents George and Rosemary (Cosgrove) Halchak. Rosemary graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1968. In 1969, she married the love of her life, David Soltesz, before obtaining her dream job as a stay-at-home mom to 3 kids, Deborah Bailey, husband Tom Bailey, David Soltesz Jr., wife Dana, and Amy Duffey husband Scott. In 1999, Rosemary’s first grandchild, David III, was brought into this world, followed by 10 more, Daniel, Daphne, Grace, George, Sam, Isabella, Matthew, Dominic, Jonathan, and Drake. From 1999 till her last breath, Rosemary’s biggest pride and joy in life was being a devoted grandmother, known as “Grammy,” to her 8 grandsons and 3 granddaughters. She is also the beloved sister of Paul Halchak and Georgann Halchak. When she wasn’t attending hockey games, dance recitals, cheerleading competitions, school events, and more, Rosemary was always finding ways to introduce her grandchildren to new movies, books, museums, musicals, restaurants, shopping malls, vacation spots, games, and more. Her family’s happiness was at the forefront of all of her life decisions. Every year, Rosemary would make it her personal goal to organize the best family vacation possible. One of her favorite activities on any beach vacation included sitting on an ocean view balcony, angled so she could watch her grandkids play with one another before attending family dinners each evening. She was her family’s fearless leader, especially when it came to warning a restaurant of the non-negotiable party of 19 that would soon be walking in loud with laughter. Even in her final days, Rosemary remained witty and loving, never ceasing to forget any holiday, season, or loved one’s birthday simply because each sector acted as annual mile-markers, indicating the next time she’d be with the entirety of her family. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 6, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, North Huntingdon. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.
