Prudence Louise (Lunn) Wampler

Prudence Louise (Lunn) Wampler, formerly of Irwin, passed away peacefully at her daughter Linda’s home in Brookville, on March 26th, surrounded by her three beloved children, Linda Slater, Kenneth Wampler, and Tracy McCoy. She was born and raised in 1931 in Irwin, the daughter of Louise (Kasparek) Lunn and John R. Lunn. She married Merle W. Wampler in 1949 with whom she lived until his death in 2012. They adored each other for 62 years. An artistic country girl at heart, Pru rode horses and created beautiful gardens. She was accomplished at painting, sewing, and creating needlework of all sorts, making a beautiful home for her family. As a Girl Scout leader she taught her girls how to build a fire and cook a meal on it, which knots worked best for what purposes, and how to identify plants in the forest. Her children won prizes for the Halloween costumes she designed and created. She was an avid reader of literature and history. She also engineered the building of a horse barn, a greenhouse, and a covered porch that became the happy setting for birthdays, weddings, graduations, holidays and retirements. Above all, she was a wife and mother, and superb at both. She was a member of the former United Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Irwin, now New Hope Presbyterian Church, North Huntingdon, and served there as Deacon. Survivors include her three loving children Linda, Kenneth, and Tracy; her sons-in-law Don Adams, Gordon Powell, and Steve McCoy; two grandchildren, Sharon True and David Slater; ten great-grandchildren; as well as her siblings Nancy Hooper, David Lunn, and Paul Lunn. Her eldest brother Jack Lunn predeceased her. She leaves behind many family and friends who loved her dearly and will be remembered for her earnest good humor, thoughtfulness, intelligence, faith, and endless love, care, and concern for her children. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday March 28, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 29 at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main St., Irwin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, in New Hope Presbyterian Church, 12727 Lincoln Way, North Huntingdon, with Pastor Brenda Barnes, officiating.
