Melvyn L. "Mel" Rasel

Melvyn L. Rasel, 81, of Plum, formerly of Irwin, was greeted by God after a long and courageous battle with Kidney Disease on Monday, August 14, 2023. He was born July 17, 1942 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Dr. Harry C. Rasel and Agnes “Honey” Boyle. Mel graduated from Norwin Class of ‘61 and Cal U PA Class of ‘70 where he patiently waited through four U.S. Presidential Administrations to meet his future bride Priscilla Allen. The vastness, loyalty and sincerity of his friendships gave his son a completely unrealistic expectation of to expect in life. He loved his friends with fidelity which was reciprocated in immeasurable ways throughout his adventure of life. Mel was a member of the American Legion Post 359, American Legion Pool League, Greater Pittsburgh Dance Club, Boogie Club of Pittsburgh, White Oak Gun Club, former board member of Monroeville Mall, and an avid model train collector/builder. Mel served honorably in the Army National Guard, loved his country and was an unabashed Republican. A passion for dancing brought the most joy to Mel. A tremendous dancer and music lover Mel would “boogie” every weekend. It was his greatest expression of self and cultivator of new friendships. Mel was most saddened to leave his bride of 50 years Priscilla (PJ). If ever a man loved a woman, Mel loved his PJ. He is survived by his devoted son and best friend Brian, his cherished daughter in law Caitlyn and the absolute joys of his life granddaughters Reagan, Remi Jane and soon to be grandson. Mel also leaves behind his brother Micheal (Berk) Rasel, the most faithful and selfless sister a man could pray for Maureen (Tom) Clemmons, his sister in law Darlene Rasel and numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful friends. He was preceded in death by a brother Martin Rasel. The family wants to extend their deepest thanks to Davita Monroeville Dialysis for giving extending his life and to Transitions Healthcare for their kindness and support at the end. All are invited to pay their respects from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the William Snyder Funeral Home 521 Main St. Irwin, PA 15642. The family encourages all friends to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday at 9 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Iriwn. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville.
