Marilyn Jane (Daugherty) Fawcett

Marilyn Jane (Daugherty) Fawcett, 89, of Harrison City, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 11, 2025, surrounded by her precious family. She is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born on April 10, 1936, in North Irwin, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Marion (Harper) Daugherty, and is preceded in death by her husband, William D. Fawcett, Sr.; toddler sister, Marcella Daugherty; brother, Clarence Daugherty (who affectionately called her “Jake”); brother-in-law, Robert (Betty) Fawcett; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jane (Robert) Williams; and a niece, Nancy Fawcett Deslam. A faithful Christian, her favorite verse was Nehemiah 8:10: “This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Marilyn was quick to remind folks that she skipped the sixth grade; she dazzled as a majorette and subsequently graduated from North Huntingdon High School. Marilyn and Bill married in 1953. They raised five children together and co-owned the Lee-Thompson-Fawcett Co. / Bell-View Brand Food Products. She lived a full life: delivering babies and attending autopsies with Dr. Crumlish, proudly supporting her children as a Norwin Band and Athletics parent, and caring for all who entered her home. She faithfully belonged to churches, led a Koinonia group, and cherished Sheila’s Bible study and her dear friends throughout her life. Raised in the First United Methodist Church of Irwin, she then sang in the Chancel Choir and served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin, ending her time as a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in McKeesport. Marilyn will be remembered as a wonderful and exciting woman, who lit up every room she entered with a fabulous story and exuberant laughter. Donning her eye-catching jewelry and bright red lipstick, she was known for wearing bold prints that matched her vivacious personality. While she was quite the social butterfly, Marilyn faithfully sent cards to everyone she loved, written in her distinctive script and complete with comic strips and encouragements from Scripture. She was the consummate hostess: no one could leave her home hungry, and a “little” sugar could fix any issue, particularly in her special drink. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought joy to her days with games, dippy eggs, and tea parties. She is survived by her devoted children, William (Linda) Fawcett, Jr., of North Huntingdon, Hugh (Katie) Fawcett, of Greensburg, Steven (Suzanne) Fawcett, of Harrison City, Lisa (William) Haines, of North Huntingdon, and Robert (Nancy) Fawcett, of Harrison City; 19 wonderful grandchildren, William (Deborah) Fawcett, Jesse (Danielle) Fawcett, Timothy (Abigail) Fawcett, Patrick Fawcett, Rachel Fawcett, Steven (Jessica) Fawcett, Stefanie (Daniel) Weyandt, Christopher (Emily) Fawcett, Jaclyn (Christopher) Bartko, Alyson (Shane) Jones, Michael (Lindsay) Fleming, Robert (Natalie) Fleming, Daniel (Amanda) Fleming, Katy (Kaajal) Nanda, William (Aubrey) Haines, Jonathan (fiancé Ellie) Haines, Elizabeth (fiancé Matt) Haines, Hunter Haines, and Matthew Fawcett; 34 exciting great-grandchildren, Jacob, Vivian, Evyn, Sam, Cade, Micah, Colin, Elliot, Lucy, Finn, Addy, Hunter, Hudson, Eve, Waylon, Josie, Emelina, Miles, Lachlan, McKinley, Jameson, Scarlett, Caleb, Lydia, Jesse, Lianna, Anneliese, Arabella, Carson, Parker, Sophia, Bryer, Azrael, and a baby girl on the way; and Richard (Sandra) Daugherty, of Irwin. Marilyn is also survived by Cheryl (Earl) Kiser, of North Irwin; several special nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many caring friends who remained faithful to her through the joys and sorrows of life. The family wishes to express their sincerest thanks to Marilyn’s dedicated caregivers: Kelly, Barb, Wendy, Lois, Tammy, Joann, Kathy, Jill, Hope, Mary, and Jessica. Additional thanks to Bridges Hospice: Amanda, Kathy, Trish, and Marty. Marilyn was ever ready with a rhyme or a quip, and like her mother she was quite the pip, so it seems fitting to let her have the final blip. Last week she declared, “If I kick the bucket, I need you to understand something: I’ve had a long and wonderful life.” Friends will be received from 12 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, and 12 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at First Evangelical Free Church, 4001 University Dr., Penn State Greater Allegheny campus. Those attending the funeral please go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Brush Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to First Evangelical Free Church or Samaritan’s Purse. Marilyn’s greatest hope was that all would love God and love their neighbor. Let the joy of the Lord be your strength. As Marilyn would say, “Too-da-loo!”
