Jerry W. Martz

Jerry Wayne Martz, age 81 of Irwin, PA was called home to the Lord on the morning of July 4, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on April 25, 1942 to the late William and Alice (Fligor) Martz in Mt. Pleasant, PA, attended Hurst High School and was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh in 1983. He is survived by his wife Rosemary of 55 years. Son Jerry, and favorite daughter-in-law Melane Martz of Powell, OH; grandchildren Jessica (Grant), Jenna, Jillian and Mitchell. Daughter Amy, and favorite son-in-law Josh Guerke of Eldridge, MD; grandchildren Madde and Tyler. Jerry is also survived by siblings Peggy Drop (Ron), Barry (Janet), Jim (Carol), Rick (Barb), Gary (Luann) and Susan Yeskey (Ralph) and in-laws Betty Martz, Ted Czekaj, Sylvia Kostyo, Paul & Dottie Kostyo and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Geraldine Martz; sisters Marilyn Smith, Esther Czekaj, and Cheryl Barr; his brothers, Allen Martz and William Martz; and brothers-in-law John Kostyo, Fred Smith and Jack Barr. Jerry was proud to be an American, serving in the Navy after graduating high school and he flew the US flag proudly. He worked at AT&T for 30 years and upon retirement dedicated time volunteering at St. Emma’s Monastery in Greensburg, tending to his garden & flowerbeds (and fighting groundhogs and rabbits), mastering his golf game (had a hole in one and rated golf courses for the Keystone PGA) and most importantly, cherishing time with his family & friends. Jerry enjoyed playing cards, drinking a beer, and would never turn down a trip to Dairy Queen. He always had several dad jokes to make people smile. In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years Rosemary, Jerry’s favorite part of life was his grandchildren. He never missed a graduation and attended countless sports, concerts, and special events with his family. Jerry was a great neighbor and friend, always lending a hand to anyone in need. He was year-round fan of Pittsburgh sports, cheering on (or yelling at) the Steelers, Penguins, and Bucs; and a tried-and-true supporter of his Pitt Panthers (#HTP). Whether he was enjoying traditions with family, friends on the back patio, or golf with the love of his life Jerry was a good man, loved by all how knew him and will be greatly missed. Friends and family are encouraged to dress in respectful golf attire to honor Jerry’s favorite past time or respectful Pittsburgh sports attire (no Penn State or Ravens 😊) to represent one of Jerry’s favorite teams.
