Herbert J. "Bucky" McLaughlin, Jr., 83, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. He was born on July 11, 1941, in McKeesport, the son of the late Herbert J. McLaughlin, Sr., and Katherine (Yednak) McLaughlin. Herb honorably served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, dedicating 30 years of his life to military service. He was stationed overseas for the majority of his career, specializing in communications during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Proud of his service, Herb embodied the spirit of patriotism and commitment. After retiring from the USAF, Herb began a second career with the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, where he worked until his retirement in 2003. While stationed in the Philippines, Herb met the love of his life, Asuncion G. Mangino. They shared a beautiful marriage of 51 years and 11 months, raising two daughters: Kristen McLaughlin Haynes (Jeff) of Penn Township and Karen M. Wehrli (Kenneth) of North Huntingdon. Known as "Lolo" to his grandchildren—Jordyn K. Haynes, Jakob K. Haynes, Konnor B. Wehrli, and Kollin M. Wehrli—he adored spending time with them and supporting their pursuits. "Bucky," as he was fondly known by friends, attended St. Pius V Catholic School in McKeesport and graduated from McKeesport High School in 1959, where he excelled in football. He later shared his love of the sport by coaching the McKeesport Little Tigers in the mid-1980s. In retirement, Herb enjoyed traveling with his wife, sharing countless adventures. He also found pleasure in collecting coins and stamps over the years. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his presence will be deeply missed. "Bucky" is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Gobel of McKeesport, as well as his niece, nephews, great-nieces, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (act.alz.org) or the Parkinson’s Foundation (parkinson.org). Friends and family will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2024, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, (724) 863-1200. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at St. Barbara Church, Harrison City. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
