It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Calvin David Garbowsky, 81, who peacefully passed away on January 21, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, including his cherished granddog, Chewbacca. Calvin lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was married to Kathleen Garbowsky, the love of his life, with whom he shared countless adventures. Together, they traveled the country, creating unforgettable memories with their children and grandchildren. Calvin always dreamed of having a big family, and his wish came true. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by the people he loved. Whether playing cards with friends and family, sharing a laugh, or taking shots of Sljivovica Old Plum Brandy, Calvin found joy in life’s simple pleasures. A lover of animals, Calvin had a special bond with his granddog, Chewbacca. Spending time with Chewbacca brought him immense joy, and their bond was a source of comfort throughout his life. Calvin also found great pride and joy in his work in the coal mines, where he spent much of his life. He loved the camaraderie of his coworkers and the opportunity to meet new people through his work. In his leisure time, he delighted in going to the casino, picking up scratch-offs at 5 p.m. every day and his luck even earned him a place in the “Thousandaire Club.” He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen E. (Strank) Garbowsky, mother Dorothy Emily Garbowski, and infant son Michael Calvin Garbowsky. He is survived by his beloved children, Coleen (Eric) Schlichte of Renton, WA, Mark (Amy) Garbowsky of Baldwin, Colin Garbowsky (Lya Vue) of Carnegie, and Heather Garbowsky of Irwin; and his cherished grandchildren, Sean, Cian, Kathleen, Kyle, Calina, Cienna, Bailey, Luna, and Mila. A viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 , Monday, January 27, 2025, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 521 Main Street, Irwin, 724-863-1200. Immediately following the viewing, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin, to honor Calvin’s life and legacy.
