Arley M. Duncan

Arley M. Duncan, 89, of North Huntingdon, passed away on August 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and devotion to her family, friends, and community. She was born May 10, 1937 in McKeesport, a daughter of the late Norval and Doris (Gleeson) Duncan. Arley graduated from East McKeesport High School and then earned her Bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University and later a Master's degree from Grove City College in Guidance and Counseling. Her commitment to lifelong learning led her to pursue additional graduate studies at the University of Hawaii and San Diego State University. Arley devoted more than 30 years to the Gateway School District, where she served as both a teacher and guidance counselor before retiring in 1990. Throughout her career, she positively influenced the lives of countless students and colleagues through her dedication, compassion, and encouragement. Following her retirement from education, she spent 23 years as an assistant in tax and accounting with Duncan Financial Group. She was a member of the National Education Association (NEA), the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), and the Gateway Education Association (GEA). A woman of faith, she was also a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Irwin. Known for her kindness, generosity, and love of family, Arley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed reading, gardening, board games, card games, camping, and spending time with family and friends. She especially treasured weekends and family vacations at the family's hunting camp in Potter County where many cherished memories were made. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother John M. Duncan, an infant brother, and her brother-in-law William Conger. She is survived by her sister Judee Conger; her sister-in-law Selma Duncan; 13 beloved nieces and nephews David (Jinan) Duncan, John (Donna) Duncan, Lisa (Tim) Noca, Lori Duncan, Kelly (George) Criezis, Pamela (Chris) Sproul, and William (Kelly) Conger; 22 great-nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews; each of whom held a special place in her heart. "Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure." Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 9, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main St., Irwin. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday August 10, at First Presbyterian Church, 617 Main St., Irwin, with Rev. Doug Rehberg, officiating. Those attending the funeral please go directly to the church. Private interment will be in Long Run Cemetery, North Huntingdon.
